# Tako for ChatGPT and Codex

> Install the Tako plugin from the OpenAI plugin directory, then search the live web and Tako's graph of licensed data inside ChatGPT or Codex.

The Tako plugin searches the live web and a graph of licensed, continuously updated data in the same call. Ask in plain language, and Tako answers with the figure, its source, and a chart.

<CoverageDomains /> Web search reaches the rest, so one question can draw on both.

Install once from the OpenAI plugin directory. One listing covers both ChatGPT and Codex. Sign in with your Tako account when prompted, and the plugin creates its own API key, so you never paste one.

## Install

    Click **+**, then approve the Tako sign-in. Approving creates an API key for you. Each host you connect gets its own key, which you can revoke at [tako.com/console/api-keys](https://tako.com/console/api-keys).

    Skills load when a session starts, so an open session doesn't see them. Start a new chat, then ask for a figure.

    The install sits on your OpenAI account, so Codex picks it up too. Sign in to Codex with the same account, then start a new `codex` session.

The plugin includes Tako's ChatGPT tool set and its skills, so there's nothing else to set up. Two heavier tools, `tako_agent` and `tako_search_advanced`, aren't in the listing. ## What you get

The plugin bundles two parts. The MCP server gives the model its tools. The skills tell the model when to use them.

### Tools

| Tool                  | What it does                                                                                                                                                   |

| `tako_search`         | Searches Tako's data graph and the live web in one call. Returns knowledge cards, each with a headline value and an interactive chart, plus web results.       |
| `tako_available_data` | Reports what data Tako holds for an entity or metric, and returns the canonical name to search on. Never charged.                                              |
| `tako_contents`       | Fetches a card's data rows or a web page's text, up to 10 URLs per call.                                                                                       |
| `tako_graph_related`  | Lists what a graph node connects to: its metrics, entities, competitors, industry, and sources. Never charged.                                                 |
| `tako_visualize`      | Builds a Tako chart from data you supply. **Warning:** the card is public and permanent, so don't send sensitive data. The model confirms before it publishes. |

ChatGPT renders the chart inline. Codex is a terminal, so it returns the data and a link to the chart.

### Skills

The tools work across everything Tako covers. Skills add depth in three domains. Each one tells the model which tool to call, how to shape the query, and how to report the result.

## What to ask

* "Show me NVIDIA's quarterly revenue."
* "Compare US and euro-area inflation over the last 3 years."
* "How much traffic does Netflix get, and which sites compete with it?"
* "Who has won the most Premier League titles?"
* "What are the prediction markets saying about the next rate cut?"
* "Read the latest CPI release and tell me what changed."
* "Get the latest Fed funds rate so I can seed this fixture."
* "Chart these regional sales figures and give me a link to share."

Tako matches one entity and one metric best, such as `Nvidia revenue`. The skills split a broad question into several searches.

## Troubleshooting

  Skills load when a session starts, so start a new chat or `codex` session. If you added Tako as a custom connector, you have the tools but not the skills. Remove the connector, then install from the [plugin directory](https://chatgpt.com/plugins/plugin_asdk_app_69fb789923988191a03797de71aa0cc2) to get both — two Tako connections give you two copies of every tool.

  The ChatGPT surface, `https://mcp.tako.com/mcp/chatgpt`, requires a sign-in. Approve it once and the tools run. To try Tako without an account, add the `https://mcp.tako.com/mcp` endpoint in another client. See [MCP server](/documentation/integrations/mcp-server).

  Restart the client so that it repeats the `tools/list` handshake. If a host stops authenticating, remove it and add it again to mint a new key. Tako keeps 10 MCP keys, so connecting an eleventh host removes the oldest.
